Maker Mile presents to the public five studios with different specializations and peculiarities, even though they share craftsmanship as a way of production: the attention to the material, the importance of detail and a design characterized by authenticity and quality are common to these realities that will be presented to visitors. Each craftsman will tell, through a short presentation of 10-15 minutes, his craft and trades, his techniques and his stories.

A sixth guest will combine the authentic and traditional realities of Venetian craftsmanship with those more international and related to contemporary design: Omri Revesz Design is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Venice, which focuses its work on the union of human sensitivity with technology and strategic thinking, in order to carry out projects ranging from industrial products to light design, from interiors to exhibitions and urban public spaces.

The artisans that will be presented to the public are the following:
Fernando Masone, paper craftsman artist. Relying on an ancient material with traditional techniques, Masone always applies a modern concept through continuous experimentation.
Daniela Levera, ceramist and designer. She is one of the reference craftswomen in the field of ceramics and porcelain. She teaches in her laboratory but also all over Italy and abroad.
Piero Dri, “remèr”. Being “remèr” consists in the creation and repair of oars and forks of wooden boats and is a typical Venetian craft that has existed for more than 700 years. Piero Dri gives his creations his artistic flair, making them unique and unmistakable design objects.
Stefano Morasso, master glassmaker. Morasso is the first to apply the Phoenician technique to lamp-blown glass, which was previously used only in the furnace, creating modern and unique shapes starting from ancient techniques.
Marisa Convento, “impiraressa”. The “impiraressa” is an ancient Venetian craft that consists of threading glass beads, whether they are lamp-blown, or pulled rod beads otherwise known as conterie. The latter are today a real historical heritage, since since the 80s they are no longer produced in Italy.

ABOUT MAKER MILE
Maker Mile is a project born in Venice to focus the attention on the trades that contribute to define the identity of the lagoon. MM wants to enhance the craft activities, knowledge and techniques of each of them, but also reactivate and put them in constant dialogue with current realities related to design, branding and digitalization.
The complementarity between traditions and its new forms and expressions represents the search engine for cultural regeneration and re-appropriation. Through an open and contemporary attitude, MM is committed to intervene through installations, debates, workshops and events aimed at including all the craft realities that deserve to be known. The proposed initiatives are aimed at the citizenship, young people, all visitors curious to discover the authentic beauty of every place.
The ambition of Maker Mile is to be an itinerant project, in continuous research and expansion: Venice represents the appropriate context from which to start, as it is rich par excellence of secular crafts, unique and overtime.
