Museum-house Andrich

After last year’s initiative, Venice Design Week propose again the tour in Torcello, a tiny island near Burano, where the museum-house Andrich is located.

Finding the place is not complicated: by taking the water bus n.12 from Fondamenta Nuove in Venice or the n.9 from Burano island, you get off at Torcello. Then, after a brief walk in the nature, you will arrive to the Andrich house, where the owner Paolo will receive you. Paolo will give a guided tour of the estate: it is a wonderful experience and from the garden exposed to the lagoon the view is breathtaking.

The house is organized as a museum, all decorated with the engravings by Paolo’s uncle, the famous artist Lucio Andrich and the canvas works of his wife, which create some amazing lights illusions.

Lucio Andrich, born in Agordo, worked a lot as a mosaic teacher at Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice. After that he experimented with sculpture, painting, engraving and glass.

Paolo Andrich was born in Switzerland, speaks french, italian and english. He lived and worked in France as a urban planner, travelling all around the world. After his uncle’s death in 2003 he decided to take a turn in his life and moved to Torcello. He left his successful career and retired in the venetian unique atmosphere.

The Museum-house is open everyday, with guided tours at 10:30 – 11:30 – 14:30 – 15:30 – 16:30 – 17:30 (ticket 12€)

Burano

Venice Design Week connects to its project also a visit to the Lace Museum in Burano. The museum opened in 1981 and is located at the historic palace of Podestà of Torcello, seat of the famous Burano Lace School, founded by countess Andriana Marcello in 1872. Precious pieces offer a complete overview of the history and artistry of the Venetian laces, from its origins to the present day.

The visit is organized in 5 moments: the visitor will see the complete handmade production, understanding all the secrets and techniques behind these laces. There will be displayed also some pieces from the XI and the XX centuries. Eventually, the visitors will be able to observe the collection and everyday objects used in the School between 1872 and 1970, discovering all the habits of the time. To conclude the trip, visitors are going to wander around the colorful island to see some shops and manufactures.
