Manual skills:

One of the main fundamental qualities in the field of art and design. The capacity to model and shape raw material is a rare gift, following an idea or a project. For this reason one of the VDW paths is about this, in relation to lace and silk. The aim is to know the secrets of their manufacturing, the great craftsmanship. We will meet together at Piazzale Roma on Sunday 11 October 2015, at 9 am and we’ll go to Burano to visit Museo del Merletto (Lace Museum ): this museum, located in the central square of the island and hosted in the ancient School of Crochet, exhibits more than hundred creations. It is possible to observe incredible craftworks typical of the crochet production from XVI to XX century.

The visit will be constituted of five parts: before admiring the collections, we’ll know the different manufacturing phases of crochet’s production, discovering its secrets and techniques.

We’ll see unique samples realized between XI and XVIII century, until XX century. In the last room, we’ll know all the activities done in the School of Lace of Burano from 1872 to 1970, and their organization.

Interesting aspect of the visit is: we’ll  be in contact with all creations of the students and also all the objects of the women’s past routine, like copies of Corriere delle Dame and particular chairs where the artists were used to work. So we’ll explore all the whole world of crochet and we’ll visit particular laboratories located in the entire island.

From Burano we’ll move to Torcello approximately at midday: from the vaporetto stop, a path surrounded by green will conduct us to Andrich Museum-House. Here we can appreciate the works of Lucio Andrich and his wife, guided by his nephew and master of the house Paolo Andrich; we can find many engravings on paper or glass and in particular silk canvases handmade by the wife, that create unique trick of the light.

Mr Andrich will offer us a refreshment based of typical and biological product in the wonderful park near the laguna; the food is offered by the farm of Gabriele Perenzin.
