Rules, Regulations & Guidelines 2016
The competition is promoted by Venice Design Week, Associazione Gioiello Contemporaneo (AGC), Gioiellocontemporaneo.it, Ca’ Pisani Design Hotel
1) ELIGIBILITY
The Venice Jewelry Design Selection is open to anyone engaged in designing or working with precious metals, gemstones and other materials, also recycled or poor materials.
2) THEME
The heart as the center of life, as a symbol of emotions, such as sound, as the organ that we share with many living beings … The competitor will offer its own interpretation of the element that has for centuries been a source of inspiration in art, avoiding the repetition of stereotyped forms.
3) TIME LIMIT
Work must have been completed within the 24 months preceding the closing dates for entries.
4) CLOSING DATES
All entries MUST be delivered by mail: jewelry@venicedesignweek.it
When submitting to the Venice Jewelry Design Selection keep in mind that your submission will be evaluated primarily on visual appeal, choice of material and craftsmanship. The best practice is to send an editorial main image on white background where the product is clearly visible.
Entries cannot be sent by post. Entries arriving after 20th of June dates may not be judged. The jury will pre-select 20 works that has to be delivered to the Ca’ Pisani Design Hotel by the 30th of July. Finally, 12 or more winners will be selected.
Entrants are responsible for the delivery of their work to (and back) the Ca’ Pisani Design Hotel.
5) AWARDING CRITERIA AND JUDGING PROCESS
Your final design must be wearable jewelry. The piece must be your original design and cannot have won an award in any other competition prior to entry.
The best designs are selected according to contest theme, form, functional and emotional aspects; the wearable jewelry are considered for their degree of innovation, aesthetic qualities, functionality in addition to ergonomics and quality of workmanship. Both luxury and daily-usage designs can be submitted. A section is also reserved to jewelry that can also be considered “wearable technologies”.
If you have already entered your piece in another competition, you may also enter it in the Venice Jewelry Design Selection. You will need to let us know by the date of the first round of judging (July 15, 2016) if the piece won in another competition. If it did, we will remove it from the judging.
Judges do their pre-selection and then they reach decisions in consultation with each other.
The aims and objectives of the judges are to decide whether an entry is of a high enough standard in craftsmanship and/or design to merit to be exhibited in Venice Design Week.
In the event of Judges unable to agree on a unanimous decision, a majority vote will be accepted.

6) ENTRY PROCEDURE
All completed entries will receive a confirmation email, in one week. The deadlines specified are final and there are no extensions. Multiple entries are possible adding 50% of the subscription fee for each object presented after the first one.
Participation fees: € 25,- Professionals € 10,- Students
7) INSURANCE
The exhibition at the Ca’ Pisani Design Hotel is covered by an assurance for the maximum value of € 1000 for pieces. Entrants selected has to insurance there works for the delivery.
8) AWARDS
Judges will select 12 designs to exhibit in the Jewelry VDW Selection.
9) SCHEDULE
June 20, 2016: A digital file of your piece, which can be in the form of a drawing, rendering or photograph.
July 15, 2016: First round of judging is held.
July 19, 2016: The 20 finalists are notified and have to send there objects to Ca’ Pisani Design Hotel by the July 30.
August 1-30, 2016: Final round of judging is held to choose the 12 selected.
September 6, 2016: The 12 finalists are notified.
September 25, 2016: Opening Exhibition by invitation
After 15th of October 2016: All finalist and winning pieces will be returned to designers.
10) SELECTION
Judges may not give awards if they consider the quality of the entries to be of insufficient merit.
11) EXHIBITION
Attendance at the Exhibition opening at Ca’ Pisani Design Hotel is strictly by invitation only. Due to limited places priority will be given to award winners and their guests. Award winning entries will be displayed in the exhibition entirely at the discretion of the judges and Venice Design Week.
12) COLLECTION OF ENTRIES
All entries must be collected from Venice Design Week untill the 20th of June.
For the entries pre-selected sent to Venice will be available from the 15th of October to be picked-up or returned to the address given by Special Delivery after the 20th of October. Optional: postal deliveries are recorded separately and Items valued under € 1,000 will be charged € 140 for postage, packing and insurance, payable, in advance, by bank transfer to: Venice Design Week or selected partner. For items above this, additional costs of postage, packing and insurance will be added.
Any entries not collected after the 1st November 2015 onwards will incur a charge of € 100 per item per month. Entries not collected within two months following the above date can be disposed of at the discretion of the Venice Design Week.
THE VENICE DESIGN WEEK IS THE ARBITER OF THESE RULES AND THEIR INTERPRETATION IS FINAL.
13) OPENING AND CEREMONY
At Ca’ Pisani Design Hotel 25th September, Venice Italy – by invitation
There will also be guided tours during the VDW.
14) EXHIBITION
Open to the public from Monday 26th September – Sunday 9th October 2016, 10am to 5pm
