jewel by Claire Lavendhomme

« &-re » pocket jewelery
Material: silver-gold-engraving-oxidation.
Technique: unique handmade piece. Cutting, adjusting, shaping, welding of metal. Gold-silver smelting.

Her proposal : « &-re », meeting for a relational renaissance (re-birth). 2 pieces (pocket jewelery) living alone or together. In the pocket, in the hand or put down. When one mentions jewelry, one refers to the object. To the meaning given to the object. In this perspective, the object is timeless – because polysemous – and at the same time temporal because present in the moment catched by the eye and/or exchange. By the body that bears it, touches it, it becomes an object symbolizing a representation – place, souvenir, memory. These objects accompany and have accompanied since humans are humans. In her work she search sometimes for this archetypal notion. To reveal what is common, day-to-day, but that has something to do with intimacy, a trace, sensitivity. This relation becomes bond because it creates a link between the person and the object – inserting a myth, a ritual. An touch-sensitive infinity. This link gives a purpose to the object and to the person who touches it. They can be hand held, poetry of the invisible. The jewelry muddles with the limits of it’s structure because it’s a symbol, intimate and indispensable to mankind. It’s its’ root, from yesterday to today, and again tomorrow. Both jewelry submitted are objects reflecting these thoughts. They are labelled with word (&) and reflections, becoming symbols. They are sonorous objects, objects to be transmitted, to share. Their meanings have always existed, request to live elsewhere, while existing here.
