Edmond Venise

Edmond à Venise is the concept store of the Palazzo Contarini Polignac. The store is inspired by the figure of Prince Edmond de Polignac, composer, aesthete and lover of beautiful objects, married to the American heiress Winnaretta Singer.  They both loved music and sponsored artists and composers. Winnaretta bought the palace for her beloved Edmond as a birthday gift in 1900 and made it the Venetian counterpart of their hotel particulier in Paris. Among the habitués of their soirées and musical events: Gabriel Faurè, Isadora Duncan, Igor Stravinsky, Serge Diagjhilev, Reynaldo Hahn, Maurice Ravel, and also Marcel Proust, who took the Polignacs’ salon as the model for the one described in À la recherche du temps perdu. In Palazzo Contarini Polignac too they hosted their habitual Parisian entourage, who could enjoy of the usual company in the poetic Venetian scenary.

The space dedicated to the concept store aims to convey to the public the history of the palazzo, the spirit that animated its salon, its cultural past and current activities, through objects and artworks with roots in Venice but with a French touch. It also promotes and showcases the very best of contemporary Venetian artisanal arts and crafts by contemporary artists with personal or professional relations to Venice.

A spot for beautiful and unique objects and art creations, in a fancy neighborhood, just on the way from the Accademia galleries to the Peggy Guggenheim collection and Punta della Dogana.

In Edmond à Venise you can find many different, but well combined, categories of items: artistic Murano glass, couture clothing and art accessories, designer shoes, decorative objects, the one and only Cortese perfumes, local editions’ books on Venice and its traditions, artworks, and of course jewellery.

Three different styles and inspirations for the three artists in “permanent exhibition”: unique Murano glass beads which seem mini-worlds by Muriel Balensi; colourful and luminous crystals and stones on the French/Bizantine inspired creations by Sonia Poniatowsky; and Venice, its architectural details and soul, all over the bangles and colliers by France Thierard.
