Rho Tang is a contemporary jewelry artist based in New York City. She obtained bachelor’s degrees in architecture and fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design and a master’s degree in urban planning from Architectural Association in London. Her understanding of form, space, geometry and volume from architectural design is carried out in a minimalist approach to jewelry creations.

Title: Evolution of Being – Glyptodon II (brooch)

When facing this ongoing crisis, the way we live, love, and communicate has changed. Our perception of time and space is challenged that we are forced to be confined in an enclosure physically and mentally. The normal routine such as socialization and entertainment are migrated from physical interacting to virtual experience. We cannot help but raise the question “what is the future going to be”? What will stay the same, what will be permanently changed?
In the work Glyptodon II from the series “Evolution of Being”, identical components are assembled into four similar forms within a communal space, symbolizing preservation of space and distance yet coexisting in a shared space and environment, connecting in new virtual ways and unity to stay strong and maintain our humanity when overcoming this catastrophe together.
