Setsu & Shinobu Ito are two Japanese designers with vast experience in the fields of architecture, interior design, product design, industrial design and packaging.
Setsu Ito, a graduate from the Japanese University of Tsukuba, began work with Alessandro Mendini, leader of avant garde design in Italy, in the Studio Alchimia, and then with a master of modern architecture and design, Angelo Mangiarotti.
Shinobu Ito, a graduate from the Tokyo Tama Art University, started her career with CBS Sony (Sony Music Entertainment) and Sony Creative Products and attained a Master Degree at the Domus Academy in Milan.
They opened their design studio in 1997 and since then have worked as consultants for international clients, dealing with a wide range of activities in the fields of architecture, interior design, industrial, craft and packaging design.
They have received a number of design awards, such as, for example: The Young & Design Award 1999 (Italy), “The Good Design Award 2001” (Japan), “La Toyama Product Design Award 2001” (Japan), and were selected for the “ADI Design Index 2001, 2005″ (Italy) and Compasso d’Oro 2011” (Italy). Some of their projects have become permanent collections in the Milan “Triennale Design Museum” and “Die Sammlung Neun International Design Museum” in Munich.
Their works have been published in design books and magazines throughout the world.
Both of them are invited to lecture by the most important design schools, such as the Milan Domus Academy, Milan Polytechnic, IUAV University, Venice, IED Istituto Europeo di Design, Milan, and the Japanese University of Tsukuba. Their reputation as teachers was acknowledged by the “Premio R. Bonetto of 2002” (Italy).
